英文摘要 | The annual production of citrus fruits in Florida is about 4,970,000 tons which occupies two thirds the citrus production of U.S.A. Sixty percent of its production is used as processing and forty percent is used as fresh fruits which are treated in the packinghouses. There are more than 200 packinghouses in Florida. The general aim of these packinghouses is to keep deterioration and decay to minimum and to prepare the fruit in an attractive manner. There are many procedures during handling and packing of citrus fruits in Florida. They are picking, hauling, degreening, dumping, trash eliminating, preliminary grading, presizing, washing, treatment with fungicide, color added, waxing grading, stamping, sizing packing, diphenyl pads putting, box closing, precooling, referigerated transit and cold storage. Most operations from dumping to box closing in the packinghouses are mechanized, only picking, grading and packing are done with hands. One fruit goes through the whole line in packinghouses only taking 10 to 12 minutes. After the fruits are treated in the packinghouses and brought to the fresh fruit market carfully, the fruits are attractive and the loss from decay is very little. The decay is mainly reduced by the following seven factors: (1) carful handling of fruits, (2) good packinghouses methods, (3) fungicide treatment with Dowicide A-Hexamine. (4) diphenl treated pads in carton, (5) precooling. (6) referigerated transit and (7) low temperature storage. |
