英文摘要 | With the geographical advantage of mountainous area in Central Taiwan, there is a great future in deciduous fruit plantation. Alongside the Cross Island Highway, covering an area of 6 mountainous districts belong to 4 perfectures, it is estimated that more than 2,000 hectares with altitude above 1,000 m. can be utilized. Presently there are as yet 34 species of miscellaneous fruit trees scattering in an area about 200 hectares at various altitudes. They are of no economical value on account of inferior quality and poor management. How the cultivation of deciduous fruit trees can be soundly developed will be definitely helpful in promoting the prosperity of this Island. From the result of actual surveying the adoption of deciduous fruit species in mountainous area of this Island, only those of high economical value and adaptable to the local environment and planted under a centralized planning can be justified. Soil conservation, selective seeding. adequate technical training as well as productive technique in pace with the progress of farming industry are considerations which can not be overlooked. Our best choice are apple, pear, chestnut, walnut, filbert, almond and pecan. Apple and pear are currently needed fruits. Chestnut, walnut, pecan and filbert are nut fruits of high nourishing and economical value good for both local market and export. They are easily preserved and packed. Moreover, they possess high adaptability to the local environment of this area. Apple trees have already borne the fruits at about 2,000 m. altitude in central mountainous area. Particular attention should be exercised on variety selection for the adaptability of growth period in summer whereas considerable temperature difference and excessive rainfall might adversify the growth and quality of fruits. Before multiplying in large scale at 1,500-2,000 m. altitude region, temperate zone varieties of pear must first be introduced and pass the stage of adaptability experiment. Though chestnut trees possess high adapatability for various climates, those grow at low altitude have inferior quality. The best chosen altitude is 1,000-1,700m. Gin Yori, Taisho Early and Kin Seki (Gloden Red), which have already borne the fruits in Wusheh, will be worthwhile to be multiplied. For the walnut, similar to chestnut, the best altitude will be around 1,500 m. They can planted mingling among the forest. Both their timber and fruits can be utilized. Pecan has good experimental growth record in the mountainous area, a good future can be foreseen at an altitude around 1,000 m. The altitude for filbert should not be low. Almond prefers to have less spring rain and avoiding frost. Besides the above mentioned species, there are peach, plum, chinese apricot, persimmon, loquate, jujube, cherry, grape, fig, citrus, and pomegranate can be cultivated there. On account of their poor storage and shipping characteristics and the delicate technique needed, they will have less chance to be successful in large scal plantation there. In the cultivation of deciduous fruit species in the mountainous area, years must be consumed in the satge of introductive experiment, so that better adaptability and cultivating technique can be developed. There are many well seasoned fruit specises, such as apple, chestnut, peach, persimmon and fig, scattering in the mountainous area since the Japanese occupation. It is advisable to have them segregated and observed as to their quality and fertility suitable for multiplying and extension and thus considerable time of introductive experiment can be saved. |
