英文摘要 | In recent years, dairy cow has been introduced and integrated into farming in some regions in Taiwan. In order to find out the comparative advantages of intensive farming with dairy cow, a field survey of dairy farms and crop farms in a small demonstration area called Yang Mei. Township of Taoyuan Prefecture in Northern Taiwan was made. A total of 16 farms of comparable size of arable land (8 crop farms with dairy enterprise and 8 crop farms without) were selected for study. Under present situation of limited arable land but sufficient labor supply in Taiwan, farm business can be enlarged by introducing dairy cow into crop farming in order to make fuller utilization of family labor available on farm. However, expansion of farm business with intensified labor use is usually followed by intensified capital use at the same time. In case family labor is available, but capital supply is short, the famers may not be able to integrate the dairy industry into crop farming. Since a considerable amount of barnyard manures can be produced by dairy cow, the farm with dairy enterprise uses a greater amount of compost manures and less chemical fertilizer then the farm without dairy. Nevertheless, the yield of paddy rice on farm with dairy is still higher as more compost manures are applied-the yield of paddy rice on farm with dairy is about 12% greater than that on farm without even a 7% less of fertilizer cost is applied on farm with dairy enterprise. Farm with dairy also provides a greater opportunity for the employment of family labor. The total requirements of labor input on farm with and without dairy enterprise are 566 and 417 working-days per year respectively. It is about 36% greater on farm with dairy. Furthermore, the labor distribution is more even on farm with dairy during the year. The monthly distribution of labor used in crop farm with and without dairy enterprise is shown in Table 4 and Figure 1. The busy seasons are the same for both types of farming. However, the variation of labor used from month-to-month is smaller on farm with dairy than that on crop farm. The monthly fluctuation of labor use on both farms with and without dairy is given in Figure 2. Since self-sufficient forage crop production is needed to feed the dairy cow, which required a well-arranged crop rotation system including forage crop, the productivity of land could also be maintained or increased to a considerable extent on the farm with dairy enterprise. |
