中文摘要 | 本文探討中文主題明顯(topic-prominence)和英文主語明顯 (subject-prominence)的不同,以及這種差異為什麼會導致中國學生在學習英文的過 程中,無法有效區別主動句與被動句。中文意義上是被動的句子,不見得一定要 標上「被」或「受到」等字眼,因為中文跟英文不一樣,要突顯某個主題,被動 句並不是唯一的辦法,我們總是可依賴主題前移(topic-fronting)的做法。但是,初 學英文的學生,第一次接觸到被動的句型,因為對兩種語言的差異缺乏認識,很 容易受到干擾,而將被動與主題前移劃上等號,影響所及,可能寫出沒有BE動 詞或動詞未改成過去分詞的英文被動句;另外有些學生則會以中文不必用到「被」 或「受到」等主事者標記(agent marker),就可以表達被動概念的方式,寫出非被 動的句子,還自以為自己寫的是被動句。本文探討主題與主語的差異,分析為什 麼中國學生容易犯葉氏(1995)所提的上述兩種錯誤。 |
英文摘要 | Unlike English, Chinese passives are not necessarily in coniormity with objective-fronting as in topicalization. English sentences typically have only one noun phrase asthe grammatical subject, while Chinese sentences might have a topic other than thesubject. If a Chinese learner of English mistakenly regards object-fronting to be essentialto the formation of an English passive sentence, he/she might generate an English passivemissing the verb-to-be or the past participle or forming a perfective. This study followsYip(1995) to investigate the classic issue of passive formation. |
