| 英文摘要 | In the late Qing Dnasty, women's liberation started to rise. Chinese women limited by traditional morals and ethics began to step out of their home, looking after their own self. But among them was a special group-prostitutes. On account of their occupation they had been active outside their family life. On the one hand, they had a wider range of activities and ways. On the other hand, they were of low social status, much lower than other general females-traditionally regarded as "second gender", and thus were unusually limited and despised. Though the target of the novel "Niehai hua" (The flower in the world of retribution) written in the late Qing Dynasty was to reflect the social history of that time, yet the leading character was Fu CaiYun, who once was a prostitue. Later, she became Hong Jun's concubine and went to Russia, Germany, Austria and Holland with Hong as his first wife. After Hong died, she returned to her former occupation and became a well-known courtesan, also one of the well-known women in the late Qing Dynasty because of her unusual life experience. One of the topic of this article is whether this novel reflected the values and gender-consciousness of the society to prostitutes. Also, this novel had two versions, one in the late Qing Dynasty and the other in the early time after the Republic of China was set up. The other topic of this article is whether the difference of the two versions reflected the changes of the author in thoughts and ideas. This article is mainly on the image of Fu and other related female images so as to observe the gender-consciousness as well ad the differences and changes between the two versions. Then we can have a better idea how people in that age recognized Fu's image, what was their social evaluation of her image and what was reflected as to gender-consciousness in the novel. |
