中文摘要 | 液晶和光纖結合製作的光纖元件,藉由液晶分子指向安排,可達成不同的光極化控制功能,而液晶之流動性、製作簡易,可製成本質型光纖元件,有較佳的機械穩定度及低插入損耗,此為液晶式光纖元件之優點。吾人所研發之徑向排列液晶殼層光纖,是將液晶分子沿光纖的直徑方向排列製成之圓柱對稱型樣品,具有選擇TE�絳牷A而過濾其他二次高階模TM�筒MHE�荃絳狺坏能,這種新的控制光纖Spatial Modes之技巧,可用以建構新穎的雙模光纖元件,並應用在感測用途上。本文將由徑向液晶殼層光纖樣品製作出發,分析其輸出光干涉圖樣,並建立量測系統,由實驗觀察,評估徑向液晶殼層光纖應用在光纖感測之可行性。 |
英文摘要 | Fiber-optic components fabricated by the combined use of liquid crystal and fiber, can easily control the light polarization, due to the flexible alignment of liquid crystal molecules. The fabricated fiber component do not require interruption of the fiber core and thus has better mechanical stability and low insertion loss. We have studied a fiber cell composed of cladding-removed fiber enclosed by radially aligned liquid crystals for years. This fiber structure together with using liquid crystals of suitable refractive indices makes second-order modes separation possible, with the TE�� mode guided and the TM�� and HE�荃� modes leaking. This technique of spatial mode control may be used in dual-mode fiber sensing scheme. Dual-mode fiber sensing with more compact structure attracts our interests. In this paper, based on the spatial mode filtering of a radially aligned liquid-crystal-clad fiber, we will investigate the possibility of the fiber structure used in dual-mode fiber sensing. In theory, we will analyze the output optical pattern of the fiber. In experiment, we will improve the process of preparing the radially aligned liquid-crystal-clad fiber, and build up the measurement system to conduct the temperature sensing. |
