英文摘要 | Objective:Eye-tracking and the activites measured in the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) are mediated by the frontal lobe. The objective of the present study was to test the hypothesis that abnormal smooth pursuit eye movements in schizophrenia are associated with worse WCST scores. Methods: Eye tracking and WCST scores were assessed in 38 schizophrenia patients and 77 healthy controls. Results: Eye-tracking measurements in schizophrenia patients showed no correlation with age or education. Square-wave jerks (SWJ) were significantly correlated with nonperseverative error (NPE) for schizophrenia patients. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that both the anticipated saccades (AS) and catch-up saccades (CUS) were highly correlated with schizophrenia. However, the logistic regression analysis found no significant relation between AS and schizophrenia adjusted for WCST scores. Conclusion: The WCST is thought to reflect deficits in frontal or executive functioning such as those seen in schizophrenia. In this study, schizophrenia patients had significantly worse pursuit and WCST scores compared to healthy controls. This finding suggests that the smooth pursuit performance observed in schizophrenia may be a reflection of specific brain damage. AS and CUS may reflect different dimensions of psychopathology and neurophysiology in schizophrenia. (Full Text in Chinese) |
