英文摘要 | Active faults caused by tectonic forces form a complexsystem. Complexity of such a system can be studied from seismicactivities. Multifractal dimension measured from epicentraldistribution of earthquakes is a good indicator to representgeometrical structure of such a system. In this study, the multifractal dimensions are measured from the epicentraldistribution of 100 mainshocks with magnitudes ≧ 6 occurring inthe north-south seismic belt of China during the 1900-1990 period.The log-log plot of Cq(r ) versus r, where Cq(r) is the generalized correlation integral and r is the distance between two events in kilometers, at positive q shows a linear distribution when r is inthe range from 100 km and 560 km, then becomes bent and flattenwhen r>560 km. On the other hand, the distributions for r<100km are quite dispersed. The slope of the above-mentioned linearportion is the related multifractal dimension, Dq, at q. Dq isestimated for q from 2 to 15, and the related values of Dq varyfrom 1.60 to 1.33. Results show a well-distributed, monotoneously decreasing function ofDq with increasing q. This would imply thatsuch an epicentral distribution of earthquakes forms a multifractalstructure, at least for the distance range from 100 to 560 km. |
