英文摘要 | This study aims to investigate factors underlying public attitudes and the changes toward HIV-infected individuals and people with AIDS(PWA/Hs) in Taiwan. The role that AIDS information channels play are also examined. Specifically, empirical data come from a two-wave split panel telephone survey conducted in the Greater Taipei area. Beased on the survey findings, respondents' attitudes toward PWA/Hs varied by their Ievel of knowledge, with the predictive power increasing by year. The effect of age on attitudes toward PWA/Hs, however, decreased with time. Sex, education and the use of AIDS information channels did not exert significant impact on public attitudes toward PWA/Hs. Respondents' instrumental AIDS attitudes could predict their attitudes toward PWA/Hs, but only when the proximity of the issues is high, such as attitude regarding PQA/H's rights to work and intention to help PWA/Hs, could the symbolic AIDS attitudes (attitude toward homosexuality in the study) have effects on the observed variables., |
