英文摘要 | Surface-wave-leakage-related propagation characteristics of coplanar strips (CPS) are investigated thoroughly in this paper. Three commonly encountered moding problems in planar transmission lines are all present in the CPS cases. First, in the lower frequency region, there is an extra surface-wave-like mode. The conditions of the existence of the surface-wave-like mode in CPS and in other planar transmission lines are explained in this paper. Respective field and current distributions of the dominant CPS mode and the surface-wave-like mode are presented, since this surface-wave-like mode may be inadvertently excited. This surface-wave-like mode is also essential in explaining the mode evolution around the spectral gap frequency region when the bound CPS mode evolves into a leaky complex mode. Second, after the onset of leakage into the surface wave of the surrounding structure, the normalized leakage constant of the leaky CPS mode exhibits a sharp and deep minimum as witnessed in the coplanar waveguide (CPW) case. Third, as the strip width of the CPS is increased beyond certain values, both the leaky mode and the bound mode can exist simultaneously in the full higher frequency region. Moreover, packaging effects of the CPS circuits are investigated by introducing a back conductor plane. The variation of mode evolution patterns between the CPS and the conductor backed coplanar strips (CBCPS) is also presented. |
