英文摘要 | It has been confirmed that the oriental art had an effect on Art Nouveau Movement from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The oriental art has been introducing to the West for a long time. The appreciation of oriental art for the West began in the 16th century. The growing familiarity with the art of distant peoples since the mid-19th century was a lasting inspiration by the Chinese and Japanese artworks exhibiting in every World Exposition, by the collection of oriental artworks from far-eastern curios shops which are appreciated and collected by many collectors, and by the publication about oriental articles. The western artist's freedom in designing his/her surfaces with the combination of lines and floral decoration contradicted the rigorous decorative principles of the 19th century, and accordingly, was enthusiastically receipted by open-mined artists in the West. The oriental influence was not, however, confined to specific artwork. In works of Art Nouveau Movement, we also discover the evidences of oriental influences and specifically those of Japanese art. The findings indicate: 1. The concept behind the works of Art Nouveau is inspired by the observation of nature, and this coincides with traditional Chinese philosophical thought, i.e., "Nature and Man is one" 2. The sentient style of Art Nouveau is not free of oriental characteristics of linear patterns, kindred elements can be found in dynamic movement, ever-recurring curves and undulations. 3. In some Art Nouveau works, the geometrical reasoning is derived from the simple ornament in Chinese and Japanese art. 4. The acquisition and application of the form and techniques of oriental art in numerous works of Art Nouveau create more distinctive style. 5. The Art Nouveau designers used the feminine characteristics in oriental art for the decoration of their magnificent works and developed their own floral language of design. |
