英文摘要 | In the 1998 Elections of Mayor, Deputy of the City Council, and Legislator, it was realized that many college students actively participated in political campaigns and personal discussion of election-related topics. Does this indicate that college students today are highly involved in politics? Or it was the significance of those specific political events that raised their concern? This study was aimed at examining the role of mass media in the 1998 Elections. Did media use improve the extent of comprehension of political events among college students? What was the relation between college students' media use and their involvement in political activities? The results of this study revealed that the extents of concern about politics and media use were significantly higher among male students. However, there was no significant difference between male and female students on their concerns about the Elections. Students were more concerned about politics and use more media when they became older. Students who ever took political courses showed more concern about the election than those who did not. The study also showed that the more media college students consumed, the more of political events they comprehended. However, those who used media more frequently participated in less political activities. In the study, college students paid more attention to some scandals than to candidates' policy. The study also showed that the extent of media use was positively related to students' attitude toward media. Most students thought that political ads and public opinion poll had the value of reference. |
