中文摘要 | 為了建構一個可以預測評估中文視認度有效的方法,本文歸納及定義十種可以量 化描述中文字形的方法,分別為:筆畫數,筆畫密度,筆畫線段量,筆畫對稱量,筆畫對稱 度,投影值變化量,投影值譜幅( projection profile )的長度,峰數,對稱量,及對稱 度等。 本研究接著選取最常用的 198 個中文字,就其較常見的明體,楷體,及隸書等三種 字體的 24x24 點陣字形,分別以上述各種字形描述法計算其描述值,進而以 120 名受試者 量測這些中文字在電腦螢幕上可視認的最小視角。實驗結果顯示:三種字體的共同點是其字 形視認視角與筆畫線段量最為相關,其次為筆畫密度,亦即筆畫線段量最具有預測中文字形 視認度的能力,而筆畫密度次之。此兩項描述值優於傳統上習見用來描述中文複雜度的筆畫 數。因此,本文除分別以三種字體的筆畫線段量,筆畫密度,及筆畫數對視認視角進行迴歸 分析外,也分別進行三種字體及總體的複迴歸分析。所求得的迴歸線及公式,可作為預測推 估中文閱讀視認度及評估字形設計優劣的參考。 |
英文摘要 | This study aims to gain understanding of the dot-matrix image factors affecting the legibility of Chinese characters. Several quantifiable descriptors have been proposed for describing the dot-matrix image of Ming, Kai, and Li style of Chinese characters. Among them are stroke numbers, image density, amounts of image segments, image symmetry, degree of image symmetry, and projection profile. The projection profile, being a distribution of frequencies, can be further calculated for its variation, length, peak numbers, symmetry, and degree of symmetry. The quantitative values of the above mentioned descriptors were then calculated for the most frequently used 198 Chinese characters. The smallest legible visual angles of the same set of characters were also tested on CRT with 120 subjects. The main findings of the study are as follows. The highest values of coefficient of correlation between the descriptors and smallest legible visual angles of three types Chinese characters are: amounts of image segments and image density. These two descriptors are the best descriptors to predict the legibility of a Chinese character. The values are higher than the stroke numbers that are most often used for describing the complexity of a Chinese character. Furthermore, the descriptors are analyzed in regression with the smallest legible visual angles in this study. These formulas of regression can be used to predict the smallest legible visual angles of the Chinese characters. |
