英文摘要 | This study investigates the influence of upstream shear flow and end effects of the cylinder on the vortex shedding downstream of a circular cylinder. A honeycomb with varying length-to-diameter ratios generate shear flow with constant velocity gradient. Experimental models include two circular cylinders whose length-to-diameter ratios are 20 and 30, respectively. Experimental results show that the velocity difference of upstream shear flow does not significantly affect the nondimensional velocity distribution of the wake. The shedding frequencies downstream of the circular cylinder exhibit staircase-like distributions along the spanwise direction as the non-dimensional velocity gradient of the shear flow (β ) is large; otherwise, the shedding frequencies reveal near continuous variation as β is relatively small. The end effects on both sides of the cylinder suppress the vortex shedding at the spanwise distance about 6 times the diameter of the cylinder. The end effects also slightly decrease the characteristic frequency of the shedding vortices. |
