英文摘要 | The deformation mechanism histories in fault zones can be both varied and complex and that microstructural analysis can aid assessment of the detailed processes of sealing. The understanding of fault seal generation is crucial to the assessment of the migration and trapping of hydrocarbons. The effectiveness of the seal depends upon the porosity and permeability characteristics of the fault zone, which is controlled by the microfabrics. The assessment of the sealing properties of faults is an important goal for hydrocarbon exploration and production. Faulting forms one of the main controls on the distribution, size and internal structural of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Various kinds of deformation process are very important in a fault zone; different deformation mechanisms could proceed along different segments of the fault zone in each displacement event and shed some influences on various kinds of seal. Fault seal could be provided by older impermeable formations overlapping down-thrown reservoirs or by impermeable rocks in the fault zone. This study made some analysis on the juxtaposition seals and their fault geometry of the Hsinchu fault in the Chingtsaohu structure and the Lungkang fault in the Paishatun structure. We obtained shale smear factors on the fault planes by letting the throw of sandstones on both sides of the faults be divided by the thickness of shales offset by the faults. Smaller magnitude of the factors represents better quality of the seals and vice versa. The study results of the two cases would be more fruitful to the identification of the characteristics of fault seal if they could be integrated with studies on the microstructures in the sealing fault zones and on the diagenesis history of reservoirs. |
