中文摘要 | 近年來,電子技術的進步及傳播工程的發達,文字可以各種不同的方式呈現在視 覺傳達媒體上,雖然技術使得各種顯示方式變得可行,但一種最好顯示方式的決定仍是需要 客觀的評估,本文探討:中文,英文,及注音符號等三種文字,分別以文字朝上,朝下,朝 左,朝右等四個方向顯示時的閱讀視認度,被觀看的文字,中文是從最常用的4708個字中 隨機抽取40個字,而英文單字則取自國中英文第一冊中的單字,隨機抽取40字,而中文注 音符號則為上述中文字的注音。文字以幻燈機投射,以白底黑字顯示,閃現時間為1/1000 秒。主要的結論可歸納如下:1)三種文字的閱讀視認度由高而低依序為中文,注音,及英文, 2)方塊圖像中文字的閱讀視認度不受其顯示方向之影響,3)拼音的注音符號及英文字的閱讀 視認度則以朝上方向者為最優,4)英文字的閱讀視認度與其字母數呈負相關。以上的發現可 提供文字資訊設計時的參考。 |
英文摘要 | The progress of electronics technology and communication engineering in recent years has enabled the display of characters in various ways in visual communication systems. Though technology makes display variation possible, the way to determine a best display still needs objective evaluation. This paper explores the reading accuracy of character orientations. The reading accuracy of 40 Chinese characters, 40 Chinese phonetic symbol sets, and 40 English words were tested in 4 orientations: up, down, left, and right. Each character/symbol set/word was projected on a screen with an exposure time of 1/1000 second for the subjects. The results of the study can be summarized as: 1) The reading accuracy values of these three tested sets can be ranked in the following order: the Chinese characters, the Chinese phonetic symbol sets, and the English words. 2) The reading accuracy of Chinese characters is less affected by their display orientations. 3) In both Chinese phonetic symbol sets and English words, the reading accuracy of the up-orientation is higher than those of other orientations. 4) In the English words, the reading accuracy is negatively related to the length of the words, that is, the number of letters in the words. These findings may have some implication in information design and can be applied in visual communication. |
