英文摘要 | There is controversy in the optimal timing for photocoagulation in branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). The Branch Vein Occlusion Study (BVOS) recommended that photocoagulation therapy in BRVO should be considered only for two major complications:chronic macular edema and neovascularization. However, other studies had demonstrated that early photocoagulation reduced the incidence of capillary nonperfusion areas with a consequent decrease in its attendant complications. Furthermore, it improved the final visual acuity. Besides, for patients with poor compliance and requiring early restoration of vision, early photo coagulation is essential to prevent the development of neovascularization and promote rapid resolution of macular edema or hemorrhage. Here we present 16 patients with BRVO treated by early krypton red laser photocoagulation and followed up for a minimum of 6 months (range: 6-18 months). Most patients manifested decreased hemorrhage and edema within four months after therapy. Of the 16,10 (63%) had improved vision, five (31%) had stable vision, and only one (6%) had worsened vision. Our results demonstrated that early treatment with the krypton red laser is advised as a means of rapid resolution of retinal hemorrhage and macular edema, early visual recovery and reducing the incidence of secondary complications. |
