英文摘要 | A new configuration of a fiber-optic current sensing system based on the Faraday effect in a Sagnac interferometer was established and studied. In this sensor, the magnetic field produced by the test current was used to induce the nonreciprocal Faraday rotations in the two counter-traveling optic beams propagating in a coiled single-mode fiber. The coiled fiber was twisted at a rate of ~15 turns/m to overcome the problem of circular birefringence-quenching effect caused by the fiber bending. The output signals from the Sagnac interferometer were extracted using the opto-electronic signal processing techniques of piezoelectric phase modulation and phase sensitive detection. The sensing for both d.c and a.c(60Hz) current below 12 A was carried out using the present system, and reasonable agreement between the experimental results and theoretical predictions was obtained. From the measured results, the calculated Verdet constant for the monomode fiber used was 2.64×10 rad/A at 814nm, which is reasonable in comparison with the previously reported value of 830nm. Also investigated were the electrical noise and signal phase in the signal-processing circuit. |
