英文摘要 | Since 1937, the traditional designer of gasket bolted joints always utilizes the "y" factor for seating yield, and the "m" factor for maintaining the gasket load under operating conditions as per ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Up until today, these two factors have been used for 60 years. If the industries still utilize these simple and obsolete methods to seal flanges and attempt to reduce emission, how can they correctly select the gasket materials and determine optimal loading as well as operating conditions to ensure required gasket sealing performance? During the last 30 years, more new gasket materials have been introduced to achieve required emission performance. The old factors are not appropriate for the new gasket materials. Because they are no comparable test methods for m and y, and claims for reduced emission based on m and y can't be verified. This article introduces a new technology which evaluates the performance of gasket materials used in process industries. The new gasket constants, such as Gb, a, Gs have been created along with the ROTT (ROom Temperature Tightness) test. These new constants can be highly effective at characterizing the gasket's sealing performance between flanges. It is expected that these new gasket constants could eventually replacement the conventional "m" and "y" factors currently used in the ASME code. |
