| 英文摘要 | When there were only Adam and Eve on earth, the world was theirs. They went wherever they wished, and it was a free, unlimited world. As global population has grown, traveling abroad and doing domestic business require common understanding among different groups of people. Using limited space, we now need to provide public signage systems to regulate our movements and activities. Public signage can be categorized by the following basic functions: orientation, information, direction, identification, warning and statutory, and promotion. However, with the forming of the global village, public signs need to be more international. Use of multiple languages is more and more common. Signs themselves are also developing into an international language consisting of pictograms, symbols, and colors which transcend individual languages and cultures. International trends in the design of public signs include the use of tactile pathways and sound guidance. These non-visual sign systems are becoming more widely used to help the disabled, particularly the blind, to find their way through public spaces. Lloyd Northover Citigate (LNC), establishing in London in 1975, boasts strong expertise in public signage design and international experience. In this article, we discuss some of LNC's cases. |
