英文摘要 | This study investigates the fabric of the standard sand. Direct shear tests were conducted on specimens prepared at different relative densities. During the test, specimens were impregnated with resin at different stress states to freeze the fabric of specimens. Measurements on the local void ratio of specimen thin-sections provide insight to fabric evolution upon shearing. It is found that the frequency distribution of the void ratio of the standard sand, at both initial and peak shearing stress states, can be statistically described by the beta distribution characterized by the three parameters e□, α, β. The e□ is a material property governed by the gram size. As the specimens are sheared, the frequency of occurrence of small void ratios tends to increase and that of large void ratios decreases, resulting in the increase of α and β. |
