英文摘要 | Treatment of periodontal disease is routinely based on oral hygiene and root debridement. As an adjunctive approach, local or systemic administration of antibiotics is used because of the microbial etiology of periodontitiis. Local therapy, in particular, has evoked growing interest because of its achieving the therapeutic levels at the targeted site without significant toxicity to the patient. Fiber placed in periodontal pockets to deliver tetracyline continuously for 10 days is effective in reducing pocket depth and bleedig on probing when used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing. It also provides significant suppression of the periodontal microflora and of putative periodontal pathogens in particular. Furthermore, some studies indicate that tetracyline fiber therapy enhances the effectiveness of scaling and root planing in the treatment of periodontal maintenance patients with recurrent periodontitis. This article reviws tetracyline fiber -- a controlled drug delivery system, as well as its therapentic efficacy, clinical considerations and applications. |
