英文摘要 | Viruses as the important pathogens of the acute lower respiratory infection are well known at the present time. The seasonal presentation of virus provides more important epidemiological information for local physicians. This study retrospectively reviewed the pediatric patients with acute lower respiratory tract infection with positive virus identification by direct immunofluorescence assay from January 1992 to December 1994. One hundred and sixty-five cases were included. The viruses identified were adenovirus, influenza B virus, parainfluenza virus type 1 and type 3, respiratory syncytial virus, and influenza A virus. The results revealed that acute viral lower respiratory infection occurred more frequently in spring and in summer. The incidence of infections which were due to respiratory syncytial virus and parainfluenza virus type 1 were more prevalent in spring. The incidence of infections which were due to influenza B virus were more prevalent in summer. Adenovirus was isolated throughout the year. Influenza A virus and parainfluenza virus type 3 had no significant difference in four seasons. The results provided local data that was relevant to both public health and practice management. Our results also emphasized the need for continuing surveillance of community-acquired infections. |
