英文摘要 | In Nov. 1995, galena-sphalerite veins were unexpectedly encountered during theexcavation of the Pinglin pilot tunnel of the Taipei-llan Expressway at distance betweenI 100m and 1400m from its east portal. Since then, we have actively conducted a series ofstudies on these veins. Methods utilized include detailed geologic mapping, structuralanalysis, geochemical sampling and analysis, mineral chemistry and fluid inclusion studies. Ore minerals, including sphalerite, wurtzite, galena, pyrite, chal and pyrrhotite,together with major gangues-quartz and calcite, were impregnated in the fissures of shaleand quartzite of the Oligocene Szeleng Sandstone. Wall-rock alterations such as chloritization and pyritization are commonly found. Fluid inclusion analysis indicates that temperatures of ore-forming hydrothermal solutions ranged from 220 ℃ to 330 ℃. Structural analysis shows that the tectonic background of the area has been affected by the sea-floor spreading of the Okinawa Trough since the late Cenozoic; therefore, the metallogenesis is probably intimately related to the opening of Okinawa Trough and its induced gravity faulting. Surface geochemical sampling and analysis denote some highmercury anomalies. From these preliminary studies, we may conclude that the area between the Shihpai Fault and the Chinyin Fault shows the most potential and is worthy of further investigation. The distance from Chinkuashih to Chinmienshan is less than 30km, and between themsmall amounts of mercury have ever been mined in Pinglin. Chinkuashih was the most famous gold-copper mine of Taiwan. These facts strongly imply that these veins were genetically related to or differentiated from a common mother source; if so, discovery of hidden metallic minral deposits southward from Chinkuashih could be highly potential. |
