英文摘要 | Chipenchushan is located in the southern part of the Central Range metamorphic belt of Taiwan, which has been uplifted and exhumed since Pliocene due to collision between the Asian continental margin and the Luzon volcanic arc. This particular site is considered important and crucial for observing recent structures due to the collision because the complicated huge anticlinorium of the Central Range has the general plunge to the south and thus the metamorphic basement has been just unroofed relatively intact. Basically, according to the scale and style of the structures, recent structural activities in this area can be geneally divided into three consecutive stages, namely (1) 1st stage: west-verging thrusting and concomitant folding as a consequence of a push from E to W, (2) 2nd stage: east-verging backthrusting and concomitant folding and (3) 3rd stage: mainly folding due to a near N-S compression. These activities and structural phenomena clearly represe-nt the products of an area undergoing general compression, resulted from the oblique arc-continent collision driven by the northwest push of the Philippine Sea plate. The aforementioned structural activities are believed to have taken place at a rather shallow level and at a relatively young age, reflecting quite faithfully different interactions of various stress with geologic material through time. The mountain-building process of this area in total, can be regarded as mainly represented by piling up of the thrust and backthrust sheets, with folding playing a relatively minor and concomitant role. The orogenic model of this area may be comparable to that of the Moine Thrust zone of Scotland described by Knipe (1990). |
