英文摘要 | This study oncerns street and roadside businesses in Taichung City. According to a careful count there are 89 thoroughfares in the city, extending for about 176 kilometers. Alongside them are 26,587 stores, shops, and other businesses. These enterprises are divided into 15 types of general business and subdivided into 196 particular kinds of percentage share of total business activity, the 15 types may be ranked as follows:food and drink stores, 12.9%; groceries, 11.9%; family services, 9.79%; industrial and commercial services 9.77%; miscellaneous goods stores, 9.21%; transportation businesses, 8.68%; entertainment businesses, 8.35%; culture and educational services, 6.92%; medication providers, 6.66%; beauty salon or grooming services, 4.30%; other, 3.57% bank and finance services, 3.36%; tool & hardware outlets, 3.12%; factories, 1.58%; and religious enterprises, 0.6%. When these figures are compared with corresponding figures for registered businesses in previous periods, fluctuations in relative business activity become obvious. Lately, the percentage shares of Grade 3 indstries and service industries have been increasing, indicating that such types of businesses are attracting more customers. Road features, business distribution, and the existence of many businesses are correlated. Miscellaneous goods stores, entertainment services, medication services, beauty and grooming services, banking and financial services, and religious enterprises are the main features along the inner-city street network. Along the arteries, businesses such as family services, transportation services, medication providers and tools and hardware stores are typical, providing goods and services for consumers from satellite counties and towns. The food and drink businesses, factories, and other businesses dominate the inter-city connectors. Groceries and cultural and educational services are typical along the main arteries; and industrial and commercial manufactories and transportation businesses are obvious along the ring thoroguhfares. All the various business types make up the downtown center of Taichung, a single core city, in front of the train station. The distribution of Taichung's top 10 businesses shows that there are several distribution models: average concentration; scattered throuhgout the city; concentration in one district; and massed along certain streets. The quantity, density and location of any type of business in Taichung can be found in this study. Thus, the study can be a good information source for a wide variety of purposes, e.g., entrepreneurial investing; government industrial-commercial management and city planning; and tourism. |
