英文摘要 | This article explores the attitude of Chinese government towards religion from 1980s to early 1990s. In the mid-1980s, the Communist faced the problem that why does religion continue to exist in a socialist seciety where the exploiting classes have been eliminated. Their explanations based on the revision of what Karl Marx's critique of religion as "opium of people", and accepted their continuing existence as a normal social phenomena in Chinese socialist society. They also emphasized that the ethical content of religion has a positive function which is good for the development of socialism in China. After 1989, the important tasks of Communist government is to preserve social stability and strengthen national unity on one hand, and to prevent foreign infiltration of the other hand. Under these circumstances, they paid more attention on religious affairs and advocate a new slogan and theory that religion can fit in with Socialist development. The so-called mutual collaboration between religion and Chinese Socialism embodied in political, economic and ethical realms, it required that religions must stand firmly on the political common ground with the government, that means to accept the socialist system & transform themselves accordingly in theology, attitude, and organization and accept the restricted parameters set by the government. It is the meaning of the "three sentences" on carrying religious work said by Comrade Jiang Zeming. The prospects of the development of religions in China in the Post-Deng Era therefore must be read under this direction. |
