Since ancient times, it had been used a lot during ritual acitvities to offer sacrifice to the deities of Heaven, Earth, Sun, Moon,; mountains and rivers: Blue jade was used to give thankes to while yellowish one was to Earth. Therefore, jade was not only regarded as a priceless tresure but a symbol of power and prestige for emperors. The old sayings "Gold is valuable; jade is invaluabel." and "Jade is the strongest and hardest." are the perfect reflections of Chinese passion for jade. In Chinese history, the sories of jade lovers were numerous. "Pen-Ho presented jade." and "Ling, Hsan-Zu returned jade to Tzou." were well-know and among the prominent examples throughout the history. Conseqyently the Confucianists regraded jade as a metaphor for a man of integrity to show respect to the noble people. The long-time nourishment and fernmentation, added by the great works of Chinese writers had made jade Chiese favorite. Being considered to be noble, auspicious, peaceful and lucky, jade is also used for self-cultivation. And the inheritance and development of the deeply-rooted "jade culture" is just to show the richness and abundance of Chinese culture. |
