英文摘要 | The complications of an injury and the adverse events of the related treatment are what orthopedists would most like to prevent in their clinical services. The reason why we would like to study them is to realize the cause of them and then to develop a good strategy to prevent them. Between 1989 and 1996, 62 children including 37 boys and 25 girls with complications and adverse events of fractures, dislocations and trauma of the lower extremity in children were included in this investigation as a retrospective study. Among them, there were 15 mal-unions, 4 non-unions, 5 avascular changes, 3 unexpected growth plate injuries leading to angular deformity, 6 infections, 5 mechanical failures, 3 neurologic deficiencies, 2 compartment syndromes, 9 unsatisfactory range of motion, and 10 other complaints such as associated injuries of other systems. From the analysis of the reasons why the patients and family were not satisfactory with the occurrence of such events, it should be kept in mind that good knowledge of what might happen, careful detection of what is really happening, detailed balance between the gains and costs of various treatments, and better communication with the patients and family are the keys to minimize the impacts of the complications and adverse events of the lower extremity trauma in children if they can not completely be prevented. |
