英文摘要 | This paper describes the fundamental theory of solitary wave in brief. The wave generation system in laboratory is testified by comparing the generated-wave shape and celerity with the Boussinesq solution to ensure its availability. Then, the experiments of one solitary wave reflecting from a vertical wall are carried out to measure the maximum runup by using dye-spreading method. Finally, a series of symmetrical or asymmetrical collision of two head-on solitary waves are conducted to observe the peak height by both dye-spreading and photographic methods. It is found that the collision of two strong but almost symmetrical solutions may cause peak collapse without breaking. Those maximum runups observed in the present study exceeds that obtained from the higher-order weakly-nonlinear theory about 30%, and thus this may disrupt the acceptance of the latter application to such phenomena. On the other hand, the asymmetrical collision of two solitary waves may stimulate an overturned breaking wave instead. During the strong interaction when two solitary waves collide, there are smaller trailing solutions following the predominant ones after collision. In addition, the phase-shift delay is also identified from experiments. |
