| 英文摘要 | The presence of teeth in excess of the normal complement is referred to as supernumerary teerh or hyperdontia. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth ranges from l to 3% in Caucasian population, and a frequency higher than 3% in Mongoloid races. 90 to 98% of supernumerary teeth occur in the maxilla, with a particular predilection for the premaxilla. Only 8 to 10% of supernumerary teeth are in the premolar region. Supernumerary teeth the premolar region are more frequent in the mandible than in the premolar region are similar to normal teeth (supplemental type). They usually develop after most permanent teeth have erupted, thus thus is rarely sufficient space for them to undergo complete eruption and their effect upon the occlusion is limited. The majority of supernumerary premolars can be diagnosed only by means of radiography (panoramic, periapical & occlusal radiographs)since most of them are impacted. The generally recommeded course of treatment is extracion, although in selected cases periodic monitoring is advised if the tooth could be useful for orthodontic reasons or the surgery would be unjustifiably hazardous to adjacent structures. |
