英文摘要 | The consolidation of coating layers based on spherical polystrene pigments particles was studies using a gloss technique. Consolidation is the process which occurs when the liquid phase leaves the coating layer during drying. The consolidation of the polystrenecontaining layers was compared with that of a clay-based layer. The shrinkage of the layer during consolidation was significantly lower when the plastic pigment was used, because the spherical particles had already formed a regular close-packed, rather incompressible structure before air started to replace the liquid phase in the drying layer. The addition of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to system based on the plastic pigment had only minor effects on their consolidation behavior and porosity in the dry state. Latex binders added to these layers appered partly to fill the pores in the structure. It was suggested that the pronounced influence of CMC on the consolidation and properties of clay-based layers was partly a consequence of the plated-like shape of the clay particles and an aggregation induced by the polymer. The regular structure of the plastic pigment layer resulted in a high gloss in the dry state. A coated paper or board with a high gloss can be produced by applying a layer of polystyrene particles on a precoated substrate. |
