英文摘要 | Due to the economical downturn, the high unemployment rate of the educated people has become the major emphasis of the government and the society. The government and the industries put a lot of efforts into increase the job opportunities and provide practical training, but the reasons "why" the young adults were unemployed was seldom be explored. Both the government data and our in-depth interview indicated that most of the unemployment was the choice of the educated people. Among those that are unemployed in present, 63.08% have refused work opportunities before. Our data indicate that the job applying process is a very complicated social behavior. Different people have different concerns. These concerns include not only the capability, confidence, personality at the individual's level, but also include the expectations of what kind of job the educated people should do. In Chinese tradition, people expected that the educated people should have better chance for success as well as other aspect such as job opportunity. The data show that these expectations have not changed much while the labor market has changed a great deal. This might be the main reason why the educated people unemployed because they cannot find a so called "good" job. Future efforts in terms of dealing with the high unemployment rate of the educated people should provide the reformation of the "work" concept to the young adults as well as to the whole society. |
