英文摘要 | The economy in most Central-South American countries relies on agriculture and livestock. Although the aquaculture in this area has been around for about 40 years, it is still lack of planning and the scale is much smaller than of agriculture in some countries. Therefore the progress is very limited due to the short of man-power, technology and information. In the recent one or two decades, the world-wide shrimp market has been growing phenomenally. Taking advantage of their abundant natural broodstock in the near sea, as well as foreign support and new techniques, the shrimp-culture of these countries begins to prosper. They shared 25% of the market world-wide last year and the percentage is still going up. On the other hand, the fresh-water culture is yet under development for the same reasons as stated previously. Nevertheless, many countries have turned to aquaculture such as Tilapia, salmon, trout and fresh-water shrimp culture because the over-fishing problem is getting more and more serious. As a result of low fish consumption, small-scale fish market and underdevelopment of aquaculture, and harvested fish from aquaculture has usually not been processed, nor the market system has not well estblish. In general, the product is still sold on the fresh type, thus preventing the business from growing. For the sake of the situation, many countries have recently been discussing with each others about how to speed up the business growth with the help from FAO and foreign cooperations, in order to make it part of major agricultural projects. Based on the data available, the current aquacultural situation in Central-South America is analyzed to provide references for the Chinese technical mission. |
