中文摘要 | 本研究旨在探討兒童學習英語之最佳時機,並瞭解目前國中生在小學階 段學習英語之各項經驗。分析兒童學習英語與其家庭背景之關係,以及探討兒童 學習英語經驗對其國一和國三英語成績的影響。歸納研究結果,俾供教育行政單 位、專家學者及教師、家長之參考。 本研究方法採文獻探討兒童學習英語之適當時機,並以台北市某國中281位男女 學生為調查樣本,接受「小學階段學習英語經驗之調查問卷」,以t考驗、變異 數分析及多元迴歸統計分析調查資料。 依據研究結果,歸納下列數點結論: (一)為避免西方文化影響兒童對本國文化的認同,並配合兒童身心的發展,英語 學習似以小學高年級為宜。 (二)小學階段學習英語者高達百分之八十,且百分之七十曾有半年以上的學習, 此結果顯示,學生、家長對兒童英語教育之需求,實不容教育當局忽視。 (三)國中學生在小學階段學習英語以參加補習班為多,教師以本國老師為多,亦 有半數以上學生接受外國老師教導,課程多以基本會話、音標和字母為主。 (四)小學階段學習英語的經驗雖有助於國一英語成績,但對國三成績則無顯著影 響。 (五)百分之七十的學生贊成在小學階段學習英語,但喜歡以非正式的課外活動方 式學習。 |
英文摘要 | In Taiwan, There is a trend of sending children to learn English. Parents supposethat children may learn better English if they start earlier, and thus, they may attainhigher achievement. However, it is still a debated issue whether elementary schoolstudents should learn English. The effects of children learning English on student'sachievement are also lacking in evidence to prove. Therefore, the main purpose ofthis study are as follows: (1)To explore the best time for children to learn English. (2)To survey the English learning experience of elementary shool students. (3)To investigate the relationship between student's background and Englishlearning experience. (4)To explore the associations of English learning experience and student's English achievement in junior high school. Both literature review and survey research are employed in the study. The findings are stated below: (1)The upper grade level of elementary school tends to be an appropriate timefor children to learn English. (2)Eighty percent of the sample had the experience of learning English beforeentering junior high school, and among these students, almost seventy percent hadmore than half year English learning experience. (3)Most of the students attended cram schools to get their previous English experience and received both native and foreign teachers' instructions. (4)The previous experience of learning English had signiFicant influence on English score of grade 7, though, there was no effect on the 8th grade. (5)There are no less than seventy percent of the sampled students supporting theproposal of learning English as extra-curriculum in elementary schools.According to the results of this study, the author attempt to make suggestions foreducational authority to consider the implementation of learning English in elementary schools. |
