英文摘要 | At the approach of the 21st century, Taiwan's furniture industry is encountering a big challenge. Taiwan, once called "the kingdom of furniture", is facing competition in various forms and changes in world trends. This is a critical moment for Taiwan's furniture manufacturing industry and related fields. In this article, Peter Chen traces the historical development of Taiwan's furniture industry. He also analyzed recent market conditions and possible future developments. While Taiwan people used to be concerned about material enjoyment and brand-name items, lifestyle here have changed, and now people pay more attention to family and home life. Therefore, the need for better and more suitable furniture have increased in recently years. To meet the new trend, the old approach of mass production of a few types should be abandoned in favor of lesser quantities and a greater variety of choices. The author also analyzes the market conditions of Taiwan's main export destinations, such as the United States, Japan, and European countries. New technology, such as lasers and CAD/CAM systems, and new materials also play important roles in setting the trends of future furniture design. Countries, such as Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Korea, offering lower labor and manufacturing costs and more attractive sales prices, have become strong competitors in international furniture markets. To meet these challenges, Taiwan's furniture makers must produce more unique, well-designed, high-quality products. This critical moment is challenging the wisdom and will of domestic furniture manufacturers, but it also posing a great opportunity. |
