英文摘要 | Various types of fluorescent light with different wavelengths have been used in the treatment of icterus of newborn infants. In order to determine whether or not visible lights of varied wavelengths have any different effects on DNA, peripheral blood lymphocytes from Down syndrome (DS) and karyotypically normal newborns were cultured to study the induction of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs). Cell in G0 were exposed to blue or green light and then cultured in a conventional method. We found that blue light irradiation notably increased SCE frequencies in newborns with DS and normal karyotype, and green light caused less increase of the SCE frequencies in both groups. Our studies indicate a possible effect of DNA damage in the formation of SCEs induced by blue light. Lymphocytes from newborns with DS react in the same manner as those from normal newborns with an increase of SCEs after irradiation with green light but are more sensitive to blue light. |
