英文摘要 | Audio is one of media with the characteristics of continuity and real- time delivery in many multimedia applications. This paper presents a design and implementation of a one-to-one real-time audio broadcasting system based on two personal computers under the Microsoft Windows version 3.1 connected by an Ethernet network. The proposed system is referred to as the RABON system (Real-time Audio Broadcasting System on Networks). Two techniques are employed for the development; namely, the multibuffer method and Windows programming techniques. The multibuffer method creates several audio buffers together with network buffers capable of mutually transferring and broadcasting audio data. The Windows programming techniques consider the characteristics of the Microsoft Windows to increase the system performance. Results were tested on two Intel 486 DX-II personal computers connected by an Ethernet network where 12 non-compressed Wave audio files were used with the format ranging from 11.025 KHz 8 bit mono to 44.1 KHz 16 bit stereo. Results show that audio medium can be broadcast continuously on networks for all kinds of test files. The deve lopment of the RABON system has demonstrated the success of employing the multibuffer method and Windows programming techniques in delivering audio medium on networks in real-time. |
