英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to emine the effects of daily administration of exogenous porcine somatotropin (pST) on fat depositiona dn hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) gene expression in growing pigs. Landrace barrows (47.3±1.1 kg body weight) were intramuscularly injected with vehicle o 100 ug pituitary-derived pST/kg body weight daily for 28 days. Blood samples were collected on d 0, 14, and 28 for metabolite analyses. Animals were sacrificed one day after the final injection of pST for determination of carcass traits. Chronic administration of pST had no effect on average daily gain but reduced feed intake by 14% (P<0.1). Consequently, feed efficiency was improved (+10%, P<0.1) by pST. Compared with controls, pST-treated pigs showed thinner backfat (-38%, P<0.05) and larger loin eye area (+45%, P<0.01). There were no significant (P>0.05) differences in serum metabolites including total protein, glucose, blood urea nitrogen, and triglycerides between control and pST-treated pigs. With polymerase chain reaction amplification, HSL mRNA levels in adipose tissue of pST-treated animals were found to be no different (P>0.05) from those in the controls. These results demonstrate that pST administration significantly inhibited adipose growth in pigs; however, decreased fat deposition was not associated with changes in HSL gene expression. |
