| 英文摘要 | Background: Since the summer of 1995, a flurry of lung toxicity cases related to Sauropus androgynus consumption has been evident in Taiwan. This preliminary study attempted to determine the utility of gallium imaging in detecting the insult. Methods: Thirty-six patients who reported taking significant amounts of Sauropus androgynus were studied with Ga-67 citrate imaging as a part of their medical evaluation. Results: Patchy Ga-67 concentration in the lungs was observed in 11% (4/36) of the patients. The lung activity in the majority (32/36) was considered to be normal. Meanwhile, evident radioactivity in the lacrimal glands without apparent underlying disease was noted in 44% (16/36) of the patients. The radiographic findings in 61.1% (22/36) and all (3/3) histologic features of our patients with lung biopsy were characteristic of bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP). Conclusions: Sauropus androgynus was mast likely features responsible for the BOOP-like toxicity which manifested as an insidious, low intensity process. In the affected lungs, a lack of Ga-67 uptake was more common than positive uptake. The lacrimal uptake may be secondary to an allergic or toxic effect. |
