英文摘要 | Scientific and Technical Information (STI), which has already encountered many challenges in the 90s, is faced today with the greatest challenge ever. With the development of new technologies, new processing tools, new information transfer methods, data of any kind can be quickly processed and circulated around the world. A new technological environment is emerging and giving rise to a new information space. In this new space, the actors find themselves having to contend with a number of parameters which in the past, they had either neglected or minimized such as STI economic stakes, the evolution of the information processing chain with the advent of electronic publishing and networks, new user behavior, technical modifications (serials collection management at the article level, full text databases, quasi-automatic database production, etc.) and legal and regulatory issues, especially intellectual property rights. As a consequence of these technological advances, most documentary services in the world have to adapt to what is to be their new trade. In France, INIST is somewhat ahead. Large scale storage on optical or magnetic media has been used for some years now. The issues involved in electronic dissemination are being approached through participation in national and European projects for the exchange of electronic documents. Other actions undertaken, in France and in Europe, by INIST to accompany this unavoidable evolution are presented in detail. |
