| 英文摘要 | An old traditional priest and an old hunter were invited to introduce the language and usage of native plants in the field trip of two former locations of Daniau, a Paiwan aboriginal village in Taitung, Taiwan. One hundred and forty one plant species belonging to 65 families and 126 kinds of Paiwan names were recorded. Among them, 129 species (91%) owned Paiwan names, whereas, twelve species (9%) had none. Of 126 Paiwan names, 123 names represented separate species; one name, which could be divided into male and female, represented four species of no usage. Two cases of one name represented two different species, which also had no usage. Two species had different names in fruits and branches. Among the species investigated, 80 (57%) were catalogued to be useful group, in which 21 species (15%) used as food, 13 species (9%) as medicine, 22 species (16%) as wood, 19 species (13%) as animal related materials, 21 species (15%) as ropes, clothes, dyestuff, religious activities, indicators, etc. There were 49 species (35%) with Paiwan names but without any usage. From this study, it is obvious that the native plants were very important to the traditional living of Paiwan aborigines. It is suggested that the education of local language, environment and culture should include the traditional knowledge of native plants. At the same time, the development of economic products from the nature resource of the locality was also important. |
