英文摘要 | A statistical relation between epicentral distance (X) and observed apparent velocity (V) has been constructed to estimate the average crustal P-wave velocity structures in the Taiwan area. The relation was derived from 17,502 apparent velocities of the first P-waves that were generated by 1,111 local shallow earthquakes and recorded at a regional telemeter seismic network (CWBSN) in Taiwan during the period from March 1991 to October 1994. Each apparent velocity was simply determined from the arrival difference between two close stations. Apparent velocities were obtained at various epicentral distances ranging from 50 to 300 km. To estimate velocity structures, the statistical relation of (X, V) was compared with the theoretical results calculated from assumed multi-layer models. The best P-wave velocity model to fit the statistical relation of (X, V) suggests that the maximum crust thickness probably reaches up to about 50 km, and that the upper crust has about double the thickness of the lower crust in the major part of Taiwan. |
