英文摘要 | This paper summarizes the author's work on the numerical analysis of sheet metal forming processes. It presents an application of the finite plastic deformation theory to the actual design evaluation of forming tools and processes for sheet metal panels. The formulation is based on the finite deformation of a thin shell, the flow theory of plasticity and surface contact with friction between a sheet and the tool surfaces. The displacement finite element method is used to discretize the spatial variables on the middle surface of a sheet. Neglecting the inertia effect of the sheet, a set of highly nonlinear equations of equilibrium result. Tool travel is divided into small steps for this quasi-static analysis. For each increment of tool travel, the equilibrium equations are solved by the Newton-Raphson iteration. Numerical problems and convergence of the iterations are also addressed. From this research, a computer program has been developed and is being used routinely as a design evaluation tool at the Ford Motor Company. Several numerical examples with experimental verification are presented. A continuation of this research is proposed for developing a more accurate and efficient analysis. |
