英文摘要 | Recent research on language learning strategies has yielded conflicting findings. It has been widely discussed that students categorized as successful learners are active strategy users. However, Vann and Abraham (1990) claimed in their research that the two unsuccessful learners were active strategy users. This paper addresses two questions: What strategies do Taiwanese junior college language learners use to learn foreign language? What factors affect their choice of foreign language learning strategies? to answer these questions, the author examined the relationship between students' English scores and their use of language learning strategies. The subjects in this research were 72tudents at two junior business colleges in Taiwan. The chief instrument I employed in this research was a self-report survey-the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) developed to assess the frequency with which students used a variety of strategies for English language learning (Oxford, 1989). The other tools were students' English scores on the 1993 Nationwide Junior College Entrance Examination and students' background information of gender, native language, length of time studying English, and their attitudes toward learning languages. The results reveal that more successful language learners use a wider range of strategies, but the ability to employ various strategies in language learning depends on strategies training and instructions. |
