英文摘要 | “The Merchant of Venice” is one of Shakespeare's famous comedies, but with the changing times and radical change of attitudes, it becomes the comedy that has aroused the greatest critical controversy in the last thirty years. The dominant assumptions of Shakespeare's age did not include liberal attitudes to racial and religious differences, while the twentieth-century society may make great claims for racial tolerance and religious equality. This article focuses on racial viewpoint to examine the oppressed: a rich Jew-Shylock' stragedy. Under the pressure of the Christians of Venice, which no doubt shows anti-Semitic stereotypes and racial discrimination, finally Shylock lost his daughter and much of his wealth, and even became a Christian. |
