中文摘要 | 本文針對亞裔學生往美國就學的特殊語言文化背景,評估其參與課程的 學習困難及問題,以供教學參考。亞裔學生由於其不同的語言文化表現在學習過 程常被誤解其學習能力,我們設計一份問卷調查,了解他們上課參與情況。根據 問卷的統計結果,顯示亞裔學生由於艱澀難懂的教科書、有限的英文表達能力及 不同的文化教育背景,在參與課堂討論面臨極大的困難。為了印證問卷結果的有 效性,我們就測試的項目、考試的方式及分數的比例規劃一份詳細的測試表格說 明,並仔細評估各種測試項目的可靠性及有效性。分析結果顯示此次測驗具有高 度的可靠性。 問卷調查及測試的統計數字有效顯示以英文為第一外語的亞裔學生由於不同的 教育方式及文化背景在課堂討論不具有高度的參與能力及流利的英語表達能 力。且亞裔學生常因不同的文化思考習慣及語言表達方式,被列為次等學生,無 法在學習過程得到有效的指導,嚴重影響到亞裔學生的學習表現及信心、測試評 估被視為整體教學設計的一部份,提供老師學生修正教學學習的目標。我們希望 經由此評估結果能促進多文化教學方法及上課方式,使來自不同文化的想法能在 課堂上被接受,以鼓勵亞裔學生參與課程討論,擴展教學的世界觀。 |
英文摘要 | In general, it is assumed that Asian students outperform the otherstudent groups at school in the United States. However, Asian ESL studentsdiffer in terms of their linguistic and cultural backgrounds, acculturationproblems, and emotional difficulties. To design an appropriate assessment todiscover their weaknesses and serve as a diagnosis to improve their academiccompetition is urgently needed. King (1993) points out that evaluation and assessment serve to help students and teachers plan how to learn and to find outwhat they want. Evaluation should be considered as an integral part of the curricular and decision making process. The international students in the Education Department of FairleighDickinson University, New Jersey were chosen to observe their academicperformance due to their educational experiences and natural family support.Therefore, the assessment was constructed to measure the required Englishcommunicative proficiency of seven ESL students in the Evaluation Class,being lectured by Professor Rafael Olivares. The result obtained from thismeasurement was expected to enable the teacher to understand his Asian ESLstudents' communicative ability to participate in class discussions, and toserve as a basis for the next class to provide the necessary help in improvingthe participation of ESL students. |
