英文摘要 | A total of 1660 students from eight primary schools and one junior high school in south Taiwan were surveyed in reference to the health status of the temporomandibular joint apparatus. During the interview, histories of notable facial trauma and locking open of jaw were questioned, and functional examination of the joints and the associated muscles were conducted. The overall prevalence rate of having at least one of the cardinal signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders (defined as joint noise, joint pain, muscle pain, and maximal mouth opening less than 35mm) was 20.06%. No gender predilection was noted except more boys displayed joint noise and more girls had reduced range of mouth opening. Joint noise was the most common finding (10.6%), followed by muscle pain (6.08%), joint pain (6.02%), and reduced MMO (2.05%). The prevalence of trauma was 26.62% in subjects having at least one sign and symptom, 35.8% in students with two or more, and 60% in those exhibiting three or more. Among the thirteen students who admitted history of open lock, six showed signs and symptoms of TMDs currently. |
