英文摘要 | Dostovesky had been an ideologist more than a novelist. And his characters, especially the heroes, were designated to embody and to testify to his gospel. They struggle from the downtrodden baseness to pursue their gradation and to reach finally their salvation. The holy quest necessitates, seemingly a convenient convention, the women who readily and generously dispense love, consolation, and loyal support. However, a scrutiny of Dostoevsky's women characters reveals significant implication. Dostoevsky, so marveled at for his characterization, would not allow his heroines to be the mere casts out of the traditional mould. And so sensitive to the current events, he was unlikely not to give some reflection of the sprouting women's movements at his time. In fact, Dostoevsky produced most dynamic and purposeful women characters in his novels. Unlike the fumbling and ever procrastinating heroes, they are the acting ones. Women are not just dominant in the plot but dominating the plot. They have clear minds what they are after. They may by vindictive and self-destructive. Yet, they are always quick and firm to have what they want. Most importantly, they show obvious development in Dostoevsky's sequential works. They are unanimously the women deprived of chastity. No longer cherished and preserved, they are, ironically, allowed the socialization to reach out. Being the downtrodden like the heroes, they suffer humiliation and alienation. Desperate but determined, they strive to reestablish their status. Dostoevsky is obviously sympathetic of the feminist perspective, as his heroines not only prevail in the men's world but ultimately achieve their independence and self-sufficiency, which are the very resources the heroes rely on in their pursuit. |
