英文摘要 | This study presents the magnetostratigraphy of the upper part of the Plio-Pleistocene sedimentary rock sequence of the Madagitachi section in the southern Coastal Range, eastern Taiwan. The results indicate that the Olduvai normal event appeared in the middle part of this section. Above it, some anomalous directions were found. One of them might be related to the magnetic excursion of the Cobb Mountain (1.1 Ma) event. In addition, the polarity of the top part of this section is still reversed, implying that the age of the whole sequence is older than the Jaramillo normal event, i.e. older than 0.98 Ma. According to this proposed magnetostratigraphy, the sedimentation rate of the studied area is estimated to have been about 2.6 mm/yr during the early Pleistocene. Magnetic mineralogy analyses indicate that magnetite is the major magnetic mineral contained in our samples. |
